When is content updated to devices?
Most content changes are updated to devices immediately, but there are some exceptions.
The Tapendium devices will check for updates to content when they are used. If they are in an idle state updates are not applied until a user accesses the device.
When a user taps on any button on the device it will check for an update to content. If there is an update available the device will immediately download the new content.
However, in order to reduce network and server activity, the device will not check again for updates for 5 minutes. If a device has been in use when an update to content is made, it can take up to 5 minutes for the update to be visible. This is unlikely to be an issue in rooms but can be when you are testing updates on a spare device. You can either wait 5 minutes and try again, or you can run a manual Sync on the device. For more information on running a manual Sync see How do I manually Sync content on devices?
The following content is sent to devices automatically:
-
Any changes/additions in Room Service, Guest Service, Gift Shop or content modules.
-
CSS changes in content modules (changes to the design)
-

-

-
Guest Messages (the 5min delay does not apply to Guest Messages they will be sent to devices immediately)
The following requires a Full Sync of content:
-
Imported translations (any section). If you manually update a translation it will be sent automatically, but bulk updates via Import require Sync.
-
Theme change
-
Change to App button label text and built-in messages (these changes are only performed by TapendiumSupport).

How do I manually Sync content on devices?
Most content changes are updated to devices immediately, but to reduce data loads on servers, the tablets are set to check for updates every 5 minutes. For more information on the timing of content Syncing see When is content updated to devices?
There are times when you may wish to sync content immediately, such as during testing, and in these cases you may wish to run a manual Sync rather than wait a possible 5 minutes.
There are two ways to run a manual Sync:
-
On the tablet
-
Manage Devices in Device Management in the Admin Portal.
Option 1: On the tablet
Step 1: Click on the Hamburger Menu. Then Select 'Manage App'
Step 2: Then click Full Sync. This will run a manual Sync on the tablet and update the content on it.
Option 2: Manually Syncing content through the Admin Portal
-
Go to Device Management → Device Status
-
Click on Full Sync
-
Click Ok.
This method is useful if you are running content updates on multiple tablets.
Why is my new content not updating to tablets?
Most changes to content are pushed to the devices almost instantly. You can speed it up by going to the Navigation page then back to the Welcome page.
However, once this is done, the device will not check again for 5 minutes. If you have been using the device and updating content at the same time, then you may need to wait up to 5 minutes for it to Sync again. For more information on the timing of content, syncs see When is content updated to devices?
Some content is not updated to the device unless a full Sync of data is manually run. This includes background images, and App messages like the post order messages, button labels, or other app structure changes.
For more information on how to run a manual Sync see the article How do I manually Sync content on devices?
If you are not sure you are seeing the latest content you should run a full Sync on your device to update all the current content.
