Why should I use 'Paste as Plain Text'?
-
A common problem for users when entering content into Content Management Systems, such as the Tapendium solution, is inconsistencies with the size that fonts display.
-
This can occur when pasting content and the software code paste incorrectly. If you follow this procedure and check the source code, you can avoid this problem very easily. It is important to use the 'Paste as Plain Text' function when copying and pasting content. It is often useful to first paste the text into a text editor, such as Notepad, to remove any text formatting that was copied.
-
If the text is not pasted correctly, any global changes to style cannot be applied. For instance, if you globally change the font, any changes will not be automatically made to text that has been posted incorrectly
Example of different font sizes on the tablet screen
The fonts on the second Page are appearing too small. This is because the text was pasted directly into the Description field when creating the Page in Content Management of the Admin Portal.
How to check the source code?
The above shows the difference between correctly and incorrectly pasted text in the source code. This occurred because the ‘Paste' function was used to paste the text, rather than the 'Paste as Plain Text’ function.
How to use Paste as Plain Text to correctly paste content?
Font size is now consistent
How do I activate or deactivate content?
It is quick and easy to activate or deactivate content in Tapendium. You can change the Status of pages by clicking on the Active or Inactive buttons.
Activation/Deactivation can be done from many areas of the Admin Portal. A quick way is to change the Status is from the main screen of a Module.
It can also be done in the Edit windows of the Promotion pages.
NOTE: These instructions apply to any content in the Tapendium solution, and the activate/deactivate option is throughout the software.
Method 1: Deactivate content in the main screen of any of the Promotions module
In this example, we will deactivate the Promotion called 'AFL Finals Package' Click on the green Active button. It will change to the grey Inactive button and the Promotion will immediately become inactive.
This change is immediate and means the content will no longer appear on tablet screens. The Modules appearing on the tablet screen will rearrange to replace the inactive content.
The Promotion Page is now inactive. This change is immediate and means the content will no longer appear on tablet screens. The Modules appearing on the tablet screen will rearrange to replace the inactive content.
Method 2: Edit the page
Step 1: In this example we will edit the Movie Special page, by clicking on the Edit icon to open the Edit window
Step 2: Change status to Inactive
Step 3: The Status has now changed to Inactive. Click Save to save the changes.
The Movie Special Promotion page is now inactive and will not appear on tablet screens.
How do I activate or deactivate room service items?
The following is a tutorial on the best practices to activate and deactivate items from your Room Service menus.
There are other methods for completing this task but this method is suggested so that you can keep your Room Service items grouped in their correct category. This allows you to deactivate items and still have them associated with the appropriate category if you wish to reactivate the item at a later date.
Option 1: Activate/Deactivate Items from Categories Page
-
From the Tapendium Admin Portal, click on Room Service.
-
Click on Categories.
-
Click on the Active/Inactive button of the item you wish to activate/deactivate.
Once you have clicked the button will change from Inactive to Active or Active to Inactive. Items that have an Inactive indicator beside them will not be visible from the Tapendium.
Option 2: Activate/Deactivate Items from Edit Items Page
-
From the Tapendium Admin Portal, click on Room Service.
-
Click on Categories.
-
Click on the pencil icon beside the item you wish to activate/deactivate
An Edit Item page will open.
-
Click on the Active/Inactive button of the item you wish to activate/deactivate.
-
Click on the SAVE button. Once you have clicked the Active/Inactive button the button will change from Inactive to Active or Active to Inactive. Items that have an Inactive indicator beside them will not be visible from the Tapendium. Clicking SAVE will close the Edit Item page, return you to the Room Service categories page and save the changes you have just made.
How do I schedule content?
The Tapendium solution provides options for scheduling content throughout the software. The option to schedule content is available in:
-
Room Service
-
Guest Services
-
Gift Shop
-
Content Management Modules
Example 1: Scheduling Content in a Promotion
The Status must be set as Inactive, and the Tapendium software will automatically make the Promotion active at midnight on the Start Date. In this example, the Promotion will be updated to tablets at 12:01 am on 30/11/2015. The Promotion will not be seen on tablets from 12:01 am on 12/ 12/2015.
Example 2: Scheduling an Item in Room Service
A Room Service Item can be set up with Start and Expiry dates if the Item has limited availability. In this example, the Status is set to Active and the Start date is the current date. This makes the Item available immediately for order.
The Item will no longer appear on tablet screens from midnight on 19/12/2015. You can also make an item available immediately by leaving the Start Date blank.
How do I add a link to an external website?
You may add links to external websites for Content Pages in the Tapendium solution.
These are useful for example when you want to provide extra information to guests in What's On, or if have an external booking site you want to link to.
Overview
Including website link
There are a number of options when setting up a link to an external website.
-
Label: You may add a label to the link, such as More Information, which activates the link (see above). If you do not enter a label, the URL will show as the link.
2. URL Add the link to the website here. You must include https:// at the start of the URL
3. Whitelist You should add the URL to the hotel White List so that it is not blocked by the Tapendium software.
To limit guest access to potentially inappropriate content, the Tapendium solution blocks all websites, except for those on the White List. You may choose to add only the specific webpage link or the entire domain of the webpage.
4. Web Link Only: If you check this box when the link to the Content Page is tapped, the website will open directly on the tablet
Note: There are some websites and some URL structures that just do not work, or do not work well on the tablet device. Please test your links on the device before making them live for guests.
What is the difference between Title and Heading on content Pages?
-
The Title is the name of the content Page - whether it's a Promotions, Information, or What's On Page. It appears on lists in the Admin Portal and Menus on the tablet.
-
The Heading is the text that appears as content on the tablet screens.
Reduce Sync time - or why should I delete old PDFs?
If you have PDFs uploaded in the Tapendium solution that you are no longer using, you should delete them.
When the app completes a full data Sync, it will download all PDF files, images and pages. PDF files have a significant impact on the Sync time, particularly if you have multiple languages enabled.
This is why Tapendium recommend regular maintenance of the PDFs uploaded in the Full Pages Module
